Final Fantasy Xiii Unleashed - What's The Verdict?

Video games fans have been treated to a long awaited return: Final Fantasy XIII has finally been released, to a great deal of fanfare from the gaming community. This title was really first teased at way long ago in 2006, so the lengthy journey to launch has been overwhelming. Well, that wait is at last over and we can all sit down to surely what is going to be the videogame release of the last few years.

Released in December of 2009 over in Japan, Final Fantasy XIII has certainly garnered a little controversy since its unveling, and the reviews obtained for the title have not quite been the full aces producers Square Enix were hoping for. The main reason for this is that the people behind Final Fantasy XIII have somewhat considerably revised the basic gameplay associated with the series, and certainly the RPG style as a whole. The makers have dropped NPCs, the interactive cities and an immediately open world.

As an alternative, Final Fantasy XIII is much more linear and storyline driven. Players must adhere to a quite strictly set route for the initial 25 hours or so of gaming. Following this, the gameplay branches out and gamers are free to observe their very own choices a bit more. This has been a significant gripe for some, yet others welcome the more direct and cinematic approach. It really does depend on your own preference.

One particular element that has been applauded widely is the game's combat system, which comprises an impressive mesh of X and XII. Gamers can actually be able to 'stack' attacks, and the amount that you will be able to stack will grow as you level up. Moreover, in Final Fantasy XIII there are various different roles your heroes can play, including healer and tank, and gamers are free to shift these roles during fights.

It's a forgone conclusion that the graphics on this title are awesome. Presentation has at all times been Square Enix's crux, and the series has always supplied high range graphics. As the first of the iconic Final Fantasy series to hit the next generation consoles, Final Fantasy XIII is, surely visually, the most attractive looking videogame ever. The FMVs are so very detailed and gorgeous you will need to stare at them for hours, and the in-game graphics are good enough to rival the FMVs of lesser games.

Add an undoubtedly epic storyline, and you've got the most important title of the year. It may be a little different to what you're familiar with, yet overall Final Fantasy XIII is simply what everyone's been ready for. Masterful combat, simply stunning graphics and a promised 60+ hours of gaming mean Final Fantasy is back with a bang. Let the journey get underway.

Why do retailers charge full MSRP for new videogame releases, but usually sell new DVD's for less than MSRP?
Ever notice that videogames sell for full MSRP, almost always, in the early part of their release, but DVD's almost always sell for much less than MSRP in the early part of their release. Also, almost always, DVD's are sold at a discount their first week of release, than go up to around US$20 for a period of time, before their price starts to drop on a regular basis. Videogames, on the other hand, sell for full price, full MSRP, most of the first six moths of their release. Why? I wonder if they need to lower the MSRP on DVD's to make it more reasonable?
