Does this seem like a good gift for my boyfriend -- Sphero?
http://www.amazon.com/Sphero-Robotic-Ball-Android-Controlled/dp/B005ONTD42/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320886827&sr=8-2
It's called a sphero, which is basically a ball that you can download different apps to play games with on your mobile phone.
My boyfriend is really into video games, electronics, and the like... problem is, he works at gamestop and seems to have every video game that he would ever want... but I kind of have been trying to find something that he would like that he wouldn't buy himself for Christmas... Seeing as how this won't be sold at gamestop, is pretty cool IMHO, and if I don't let on he would never guess it.
Oh, also, we're fairly young- I am 19, and he is 21. I know for sure this wouldn't be something I would get my dad, but my boyfriend might like it.
I would love to have a nerdy guy's perspective on this... is it too "involved"? My boyfriend doesn't really like the wii much because it's too simplistic, but he could mess around with writing programs and stuff for this little guy. Right? Or does it seem to playful for my geeky boyfriend?
The other idea I had for him was a tablet:

But his phone already has internet/apps/etc... So I don't know if that would be silly to get for him.
Ouch. SO a no-go on the sphero?
