College/Career help! (it's long)?
By January, i shall receive my diploma.
Since i was 7, i wanted to become a a video game developer because i know it's a career i would love to do and be in, not to mention the wide availability or jobs in that field as well as the 60-150K pay.
But as i get older, i come to realize that i suck at newer video game systems, My game design i started when i was 10 has not been touched in nearly 3 years. And since i don't have alot of money, i am not able to buy the latest consoles and gaming equipment. Not to mention i see that my friends are so much better at these new games and system then i am.
Now, over the years, i have created a STRONG passion for music. Playing guitar, drums, bass, and recording music.
I'm not the best person at it, but i enjoy doing it, and i have a feeling that if i had career doing it, i would like it much more then i would if i was a video game developer.
Problem is...
Is that i can't find music recording/producing jobs.
That..or i am looking in the wrong place.
Also..
I was watching an interview video of the creator of devry's gaming field classes and he boldly stated that the video game classes require alot of studying and test's, and if it's two things i do poorly at, it's both of those.
I also can't find affordable colleges to get a degree in the music recording/producing field.
College of art institute offers it, but they want a grand total of $93,567 for all 4 years. That's crazy. It's not even a university.
What should i do?
Should i stick with video game development because i know i their is a wide availability of jobs available in both west and east coast with the fact that very little amount of video gaming companies have to lay-off people during these harsh economic times..
Or should i try to get into the music industry where those jobs, from where i take it, are hard to get into. Not to mention for some reason, colleges that teach it for a reasonable price is also scarce?
My idea of a great music recording/producing job is like what the guy in the movie "Juno" does.
Stays in a room and records music all day for movies, commercials, TV shows, etc...
Works his own hours. Looks like something that suits me perfect.
How do you get that kind of job!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!???!????!?!?! That would be my dream career right there.
And also..where should i go to college for the music industry?
P.S I live in southern California.
I'm sure there's a few here.
