which server side languages are good for making games?
ok, i am doing a video games course at uni. (learning programming etc) first year we're doing (code wise) java, xhtml(ok its web code kinda) and torquescript.
the second years we're learning one of the C's, its either C or C++, and continueing with the torque script (i think we may be doing some php)
and third year not a clue atm. more C whatever i'd imagine.
Anyway i was wondering what kind of language would be best for making a kind of browser based game. I have a few idea's for creating a simple (ish) one that i could work on in spare time once i have the know-how. But i just want to know which kind of script is best.
And by browser based i mean mostly text based.
thanks for the suggestion nick but as far as i can tell, having the JVM running server side (as it would be for the browser based games) would probably take up a lot of bandwidth.
ok thanks for clearing that up for me pi. i'm still fairly fresh in the whole java thing. Did VB but that language was terrible for creating games.
With any luck i may be able to get these idea's done using java then. I'm actually learning from the "Java for dummies Complete edition" its a pretty solid book so far.
